My name is Eugene Portman and I look on Warwickshire as being a treasure trove of venues and a great source of work for any pianist. The county’s venues range from historical buildings such as the famous Lord Leycester Hospital, Warwick to luxury hotels like the Ettington Park Hotel, Stratford on Avon.
Weddings are my main form of work in the Warwickshire area, but I also play the piano for corporate events and private parties.
The Music
I specialise in jazz and swing, which is handy as there is a lot of work for me as a jazz pianist in Warwickshire. I play all the standards that were made popular by singers like Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, and Tony Bennet. My piano style has developed by listening to the great keyboard giants of yesteryear. These include pianists such as Erroll Garner, Oscar Peterson, Teddy Wilson, and George Shearing.
Because most of my work is as a pianist for weddings, I have to be adept with many styles of music. I have to be able to turn my hand to pop, rock, Latin, classical, blues, and sing-along.
Working as a Sing-along Pianist in Warwickshire
There has recently been a revival in old fashioned singalong events and I now do a large amount of work as a sing-along pianist in Warwickshire. To explain, I arrive at the event with song sheets and dressed in suitable Cockney attire. This includes Bowler hat, red neckerchief, grandad shirt, waistcoat, pocket watch, etc. All the you have to do is provide some enthusiastic singers who are not frightened of letting go of their inhibitions.

The Various Line-ups
Many of my performances in the Warwickshire area are for me as a solo pianist, but I can provide many different types of line-ups. These range from just me playing solo piano right up to a five-piece band. You can have a duo with piano and bass or you can have a trio with piano, bass, and drums. There are quite a few permutations so you can choose a line-up that will match both your budget and available space at the venue. The musicians that I use are the very best available so you can rest assured that your event will go with a swing.
