My Work as a Pianist in Brighton and Sussex
There are many pianists in Brighton and most of them seem to find work. Someone once said that this area has more musicians per square mile than any other part of the UK. I don’t know whether this is true, but there certainly seems to be a thriving live music scene in the area.
I have enjoyed performing as a pianist in many of Brighton’s venues and I’ve also performed throughout the rest of Sussex. These range from pubs and restaurants to hotels and the famous Pavillion. Over the years the venues in the area have been a great provider of work for me as a musician and pianist.
The Music
Although I was originally trained classically, my style since then has been honed by listening to the great keyboard giants of the past. These include Erroll Garner, Oscar Peterson, George Shearing and Monty Alexander.
My speciality is jazz and swing, but because so much of my work in Brighton consists of weddings, I have to be versatile. This is the reason that I play music from many genres including: pop, classical, latin, rock and even sing-along. My repertoire covers a whole spectrum of music including Bach, Debussy, George Gershwin, Billy Joel, The Beatles, Neil Diamond and more.

There has been a recent trend to book me as a sing-along pianist for Cockney themed events. For these I dress in typical Cockney attire and supply all the song sheets. This means that all you have to do is provide some good enthusiastic singers.
