Performing as a Pianist in Norfolk
I absolutely love visiting Norfolk as a pianist and I’ve had some wonderful times in the area. This region has always been popular for weddings and this must be in some part due to the county’s many wonderful venues. Theses venues range from lovely country pubs and historical buildings to country house hotels and golf clubs.
I play the piano for all kinds of events in Norfolk including corporate events and parties, but it is mostly weddings that bring me to the area.
The Music
As I’ve just mentioned, most of my work in Norfolk is as a pianist for weddings. These weddings require me to be versatile in the music I play. Just to clarify, I’m often required to play different styles of music for each part of the wedding day. For instance, classical music is the number one choice for ceremonies, whereas jazz seems to be the in-thing for drinks receptions. Also, music suitable for a wedding breakfast wouldn’t necessarily be the right thing for an evening reception. Luckily I’ve immersed myself in all styles of music over the years and I play pop, rock, jazz, classical, Latin, sing-along, and many more.
Out of all the styles of music I play jazz is my thing. The style of jazz I play isn’t ultra-modern, but consists of tunes we all know well played in a way that most people can relate to. I play songs made famous by the likes of Tony Bennet, Frank Sinatra, Nat King King Cole, and Ella Fitzgerald to name a few. Also, my style of piano playing has developed through listening to pianists like Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner, and George Shearing.
My Work as a Sing-along Pianist in Norfolk
A recent trend in the Norfolk area has led to quite a lot of enquiries for me as a sing-along pianist. This has rapidly become something that I enjoy and I always look forward to my next sing-along event. Furthermore, it is really good to see people letting their hair down and having a good time. This sort of music is ideal for parties and pub evenings. However, occasionally I’m requested to provide a sing-along session for quite formal events such as weddings. When I do a singalong event I provide all the song sheets and dress in typical Cockney pianist attire. This consists of a Bowler hat, waistcoat, grandad shirt, neckerchief, pocket watch, etc.

Line-ups
Norfolk provides me with quite a lot of work as a solo pianist, but on occasions I am asked to provide larger line-ups. These can range from duos and trios right up to a fiv-piece jazz band. Here is a full list of the line-ups I provide:
a) Duo – piano and vocals or piano and bass
b) Trio – piano, bass and vocals or piano, bass and drums
c) Quartet – piano, bass, drums and vocals or piano, bass, drums and sax
d) Five Piece Jazz Band – piano, bass, drums, sax and vocals
Whether you book me as a solo pianist or the full jazz band, you will find that I try and make the music have a feel-good quality. I hope this quality makes the music sit comfortably in any situation, adding sparkle to your event without drowning conversation.
