Keyboard - Pianist Cambridgeshire

Performing as a Pianist in Cambridgeshire

My name is Eugene Portman and the mainstay of my work as a pianist is in Cambridgeshire and the East Anglia Region. The main reason I receive so much work in the area is that there are so many venues for people to use for events. Furthermore, If you are looking for a wedding venue in the area you could easily be spoilt for choice. These venues range from country hotels such as Anstey Hall to the various university colleges in Cambridge such as Trinity College.

Weddings are a big part of my work, but the county also provides other types of events. These include private parties, music festivals, product launches, and corporate events. The district has also provided me with quite a few Cockney themed events.

The Music

Cambridgeshire has a thriving jazz scene and quite a lot of my work as a pianist has come from this. My favourite style of music is jazz and swing, songs made famous by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, and Jack Jones. Furthermore, my piano style has developed through listening to the great keyboard giants of yesteryear. These include such greats as Erroll Garner, Oscar Peterson, George Shearing, and Teddy Wilson.

Although I have a love and play a lot of jazz, it doesn’t stop there. In order to play for the large number of weddings that Cambridgeshire provides, I have to be versatile as a pianist. I play many different styles including pop, blues, rock, classical, blues, Latin, and even sing-along.

Performing as a Sing-along Pianist in Cambridgeshire

Recently there has been a demand for me in and around Cambridgeshire as a sing-along pianist. This came out of the blue and has become something I really enjoy. The events that need this kind of music tend to be Cockney themed and Wartime events, but not always. Sometimes quite formal occasions such as weddings and Masonic functions feature a sing-along as part of the proceedings. For these singalong events I dress in typical Cockney attire which includes Bowler hat, red neckerchief, grandad shirt, waistcoat, pocket watch, etc. I also provide all the song sheets so that all you have to do is provide some enthusiastic singers.

Line-ups

Most of my work around Cambridgeshire is as a soloist, but you may be looking for something more than a solo pianist. Luckily I can offer a range of line-ups from a duo to a five-piece jazz band. This means that an instrumental line can be offered that will match both your budget and available space at the venue. Here is the full range of line-ups that are available:

  • a) Duo – piano and vocals or piano and bass
  • b) Trio – piano, bass and vocals or piano, bass and drums
  • c) Quartet – piano, bass, drums and vocals or piano, bass, drums and sax
  • d) Five Piece Jazz Band – piano, bass, drums, sax and vocals

I use incredibly talented musicians and I hope that this is reflected in the quality of the music.

Whether you book me as a solo jazz pianist or the full jazz band, I try to make the music have a feel-good quality. I hope this quality makes the music sit comfortably in any social situation. Adding some colour to your event without drowning conversation.
