A little about The PelicanThe Pelican is a 17th century coaching Inn and was refurbished for 2006. It lies right on the Wiltshire/Berkshire border, within easy reach of M4 J14 and only 2 miles west of Hungerford. There is a large restaurant, with a superb choice of food and traditional roasts on Sunday. There are facilities for the disabled, two large car parks and a large garden complete with duck pond.

A LITTLE ABOUT EUGENE
Eugene Portman was born in Barnsley, South Yorkshire and gravitated towards the piano at a very early age. He studied classicaly but listened in awe to many great jazz pianists. He soon became his ambition to, maybe one day, become a jazz pianist himself and managed to fulfil his ambition some time ago. He now lives half his life in Yorkshire and the other half in Surrey so access to the entire UK is easy. He now performs as both a combo player and solo jazz pianist for weddings and events in London, Birmingham, Hampshire, Dorset and has performed all over the UK.
EUGENE AS A COMBO JAZZ PIANIST
Eugene is a jazz pianist who is not only adept as a solo artist but is as equally talented performing in any trio, quartet or any other combo situation. Recently he has been appearing at many events and parties as a jazz duo with bass. Piano and bass is a beautiful combination; it’s main strength being it’s capacity to achieve a wide range of expression. There is an intimacy about this combination that isn’t as evident in quartets and larger combos. It is almost like a one to one conversation: at one end of the spectrum it can sound like two close friends telling each other their closest secrets; at the other it could two blokes out for a good time. Piano and bass is capable of intense sensitivity and yet it can swing like crazy - it is the perfect duo.
EUGENE AS A SOLO JAZZ PIANIST
Eugene has an incredible amount of talent as a solo jazz pianist – and seems to make the art of solo jazz piano playing seem easy. There are hundreds of pianists out there who can play in a trio, quartet or band , but solo piano is a completely different story. Eugene’s classical training has paid off as far as this department is concerned and as a jazz pianist his playing is full of surprises- sometimes exciting, sometimes intimate.THE MUSIC EUGENE PLAYS
Eugene’s music is easy to listen to, whatever combination he is playing in. His main influences have been any jazz pianist who resembled Oscar Peterson, George Shearing, Erroll Garner or Dudley Moore. Other musical influences have been Ben Webster, Stan Getz, Ella Fitzgerald, and Jimmy Smith.
WHERE EUGENE HAS PERFORMED AS A JAZZ PIANIST
Eugene has worked for many companies, organisations and performed in many venues throughout the UK. Here is a list of venues where Eugene has played and here is a list of satisfied clients.
HOW FAR WILL EUGENE TRAVEL?
Because of his geographical location, most of Eugene’s work tends to be in London, Essex, Suffolk, Dorset, Surrey, Sussex, Kent and Hampshire. He will, however, perform anywhere in the UK or even abroad. At the moment a lot of his work is coming from Birmingham and the West Midlands area but things do change.
SO WHAT IF THE VENUE DOESN'T HAVE A PIANO?
This isn't a problem as Eugene can bring his Yamaha digital piano. All the music on this site was recorded on the same instrument that he would bring. The advantage of the digital piano (apart from the amazing quality of the sound) is that it can be easily moved if music is required in more than one location at the venue. A digital piano can even be set up outside.

Did you know that...
Eugene could easily be the jazz pianist for your corporate event, party, wedding or trade show. He is ideal as a solo artist, but if you require something different, he is available as the key player (excuse the pun) in combos up to a five peice jazz band. Please note that if you hire the jazz band, it will not be a typlical function band. If you are looking for a function band there are plenty of great bands around to fulfil your requirements.
